Tips for using Zoom on a Chromebook
Reboot Your Chromebook
Rebooting or shutting down your Chromebook is not the same as closing the Chromebook lid. To completely turn off your Chromebook, make sure it is on and then hold the power button down until the screen goes completely black, about 5-10 seconds. Then press the power button again to turn it back on. The whole process, from shutdown to logon screen should take less than 15 seconds.
You can quickly reboot (turn off > turn on) your Chromebook by pressing the power button followed by the reload button. The reload button is typically above the number 4 key and looks like a circle that ends with an arrow.
Close Multiple Tabs and Windows in Chromebrowser
Chances are you open multiple tabs in Chrome on your Chromebook. You may even have multiple Chrome windows open. All of this stuff is using your Chromebooks’s memory and CPU. Often this doesn’t leave much room for a CPU intensive program like Zoom. So before your Zoom meeting, close all your open tabs and windows or simply reboot your Chromebook. After you reboot if Chrome asks if you want to restore the webpages you previously had opened, say no.
Turn Off Your Video in Zoom
If you are having video or audio issues, turning off your camera can help you save some processing power and improve your audio.
Switch from Gallery View to Speaker View
Switching to Gallery view may help save some processing power. To do this, start or join a meeting and then click View near the top-right corner, and then select Speaker View.
Plug in the Power Supply
If you are connecting from a laptop, plug the laptop into wall power. Battery use can adversely affect video quality.
