How WGSD Protects Students Online

At the Webster Groves School District, student safety and privacy are at the heart of how we use technology. We want families to feel confident that when students go online for learning, their information is protected and their digital experience is safe. The information below is an overview of how we approach cybersecurity at the district level.

Web Filtering & Device Monitoring

  • We use layered protection. Our network is designed using enterprise-grade firewalls, multiple content filtering tools, and device monitoring tools to create multiple layers of defense between our users and the internet.
  • Student Devices are Managed. Every district-issued device is centrally managed. Students can only access sites that are in an approved category when using their district-issued device, both at school and at home.
  • We filter content and monitor network use. All internet traffic on district networks is filtered for inappropriate content and monitored for signs of harmful or malicious activity. This applies to all devices accessing our network.

Privacy & Data Security

  • Student records and personal data are treated as confidential and only shared with trusted educational partners when necessary. Student data is never sold or shared and we hold our vendors to the same standard.

  • Our Data Governance and Security Policy ensures that staff receive training in how to safeguard student information.

  • All staff members participate in regular cybersecurity awareness training, including phishing simulations.

Responsible Use Expectations

  • Students and staff follow the district’s Technology Usage and Acceptable Use policies, which set clear expectations for safe, responsible, and respectful use of technology.

Partnership with Families and Community

  • Families play an important role in reinforcing safe online habits at home. We encourage parents to talk with their children about digital balance, respectful communication, and responsible device use.
